Perth is famous for its beautiful coastline which is often referred to as the Sunset Coast. Now when talking Perth beaches we mainly hear about famous spots like Cottesloe, Trigg, and Scarborough Beach. However if you are looking for something a bit different check out this list of lesser known beaches with their own unique flare.
The perfect beach for the whole family just an hour north of Perth City. Here you can find calm crystal clear blue waters located inside the reef wall creating the perfect swimming area and shallow water lagoon for the kids to play the day away. Yanchep Lagoon is also the perfect spot for novice snorkelers or those who do not enjoy the big crashing waves and deep waters that are frequent in most popular Perth beaches. There is a playground and café nearby to entertain the whole family.
The Marina Mindarie
A little known gem in the crown of the Sunset Coast. Come and enjoy a stroll along the boardwalk that will transport you to the Mediterranean with its rustic European feels. Shop and dine your way through the day after enjoying a morning swim or sunbathing session on the beach. Pop into the Indian Ocean Brewing Company to finish off your day with a cold pint of craft beer while watching the sun slip beneath the surface of the ocean.
This beach is located within the famous Marmion Marine Park and is teaming with wildlife. Sit up at one of the many lookout points and keep your eyes out for dolphins, sea lions and much more. The perfect beach for the whole family with lots of protection for easy swimming.
Located in the northern suburbs of Perth and just a short drive from another Perth favorite, Hillarys Boat Harbour, this family friendly beach will have you forgetting the hustle and bustle of the city in no time. This long stretch of beach is perfect for the whole family. With small surf it is a great place for the kids to come and play in the water for a relaxed day of family beachside fun. Or grab your board and head on down for some mellow wave action.
If kiteboarding is your thing then Pinnaroo Point is your beach. The epicenter of all wind related watersports, this beach is a favorite among adrenalin enthusiasts. If you are not yet a kiteboarder but would like to give it a try then book in for lessons at one of the two schools who teach here, offering lessons for beginners all the way to advanced riding. If kiteboarding and extreme sports aren't your thing it's not a problem, grab a towel and a refreshing drink and sit and watch the show. From advanced riders doing tricks to beginners just figuring out the basics you will be sure to be entertained for hours.
Now Mettams pool is located just north of the very popular Trigg Beach however it is vastly different. This place is a true marine treasure and a great place to enjoy a protected shallow snorkel teaming with underwater friends. Enjoy the colorful corals, and the plentiful schools of fish pass by.
