A Day at Hillarys

Contrary to what you might think, Hillarys is not just the gateway to Rottnest Island. This little harbor just so happens to be a premier recreation destination for Western Australians and for international visitors alike. Get close to marine life at the Aquarium, go for a swim, go shopping, catch a wave or a pint, there is something here for everyone to enjoy. We have compiled a list of our top things to do at Hillarys for your next visit.

The Aquarium of Western Australia

The Aquarium of Western Australia, known as AQWA, lets you come face to face with unique and deadly animals. Let the kiddos enjoy the touch pool where they can touch a baby shark or a starfish. You can even book a dive or snorkel experience with sharks at the AQWA. Or if you are ready to head out on the open sea you can also book an ocean safari to spot humpback whales, dolphins, or sea lions in their natural habitat.

Sorrento Quay Boardwalk

For all of the shopaholics out there this will be your favorite part of Hillary’s. Here you will find a boardwalk lined with small boutiques and food venues to explore. Whether you are looking for new clothes, jewelry, some souvenirs to take home, or for somewhere cozy to wine and dine for the day the boardwalk will have you covered. Indulge your inner child at the lolly shop, cool off with some traditional gelato, and channel your inner American with the USA classic ribs and burgers. You can even book in for a relaxing massage or get your video game on at the Leisure Zone.

Hilarys Harbour Perth

Hillarys Marina Beach

If you are looking for a calm protected spot for a relaxing ocean swim then this is the ideal place for you. The swimmers cove at Hillarys offers refuge from the crashing waves that you will find at most Perth beaches. Here you will be surrounded by calm flat waters, warm golden sunshine, white sand beaches, along with a jetty and swim platform for added fun.

The Great Escape

This place is packed with fun activities for the kid inside us all. If you are looking to add a bit of adventure and excitement to your day then look no further than the Great Escape. From rock climbing to waterslides there is something here for everyone. Enjoy a game of crazy miniature golf, jump around on massive trampolines, complete a high ropes course, and even experience a 6D cinema and so much more.

Pinnaroo Point

Now this spot is just a short walk north from Hillarys boat harbor but it is definitely worth mentioning and should be included in any fun filled day in the area. Here you can enjoy a less crowded beach where you can swim in the crystal clear blue water, or sunbathe on the white sandy beach. This is also a popular kiteboarding spot so if it is windy you can enjoy watching the dozens of kiteboarders who will be shredding in the breakers.

The Breakwater

This award winning restaurant has three unique venues for you to enjoy while wrapping up your day at HIllarys. For a casual beer or cocktail head on down to the lower deck where you can watch the sun dip below the surface of the Indian ocean while enjoying a cold frothy on the boardwalk in the al fresco dining. For a fine dining experience head up to Ishka and indulge in their tantalizing menu while admiring the views from their floor to ceiling glass windows. If it is a fancy cocktail or fine wine you desire then Reid’s Lounge is where you need to be. From here you can enjoy a glass of red while looking down over the boardwalk below and enjoying the alfresco harbor views.

As you can see this Perth location can keep everyone occupied from dawn till dusk. We hope you enjoy your visit!
