Behind Closed Doors: Perth Secret Bars

Down the alleyway, in the basement, past the fridge, through the bookcase, or behind the last toilet stall. Secret bars have always held us captive by their clever tactics and forbidden allure. So leave your corner pub for a night and venture out to some of our favorite hidden drinking establishments.

Sneaky Tony’s, Northbridge

If it is a speakeasy you are after then this bar is what you have been looking for. Hidden in the chaos of Northbridge Chinatown this place is not only hard to find but once you do manage to find the door you will also have to recite the password of the day to gain entry. This rum based bar has over 300 bottles of rum from around the world and even gets its namesake from an infamous rum runner Tony Cornero.

Joe’s Juice Joint, Northbridge

One of Perth’s best hidden bars. This bar was actually named the top dive bar in the world by Big Seven Travel. There is a true grunge/rock and roll theme that cannot be denied from the bras hanging from the ceiling and the layers upon layers of band posters plastered across the walls.

Alabama Song, Northbridge

A true taste of the deep south USA all wrapped up into one secret bar. Sit in a high stool at the bar and listen to the country tunes while selecting from the 120 different types of bourbons, whiskies and ryes. And if you are a bit peckish while there it would be a sin not to try the deep fried mac and cheese burger which is as delicious and as American as it sounds.

Perth Secret Bars

Strange Company, Fremantle

This bar is admittedly the least secret of them all, however this Fremantle gem is so often overlooked that it has earned a spot on our list. Hidden away in plain sight on a small street away from the Fremantle hustle and bustle, this bar has a reputation for mixing up some of Perht’s best cocktails.

L’Chaim, Fremantle

Part of the historic Old Synagogue in Fremantle. Have a wander on the bottom floor of this multifaceted establishment and if you happen to wander across a strange room full of books perhaps try to wonder a bit further. Named after the Hebrew toast ‘to life’ this bar will not disappoint your palate if you after some high class cocktails. Complete with a grand piano, mood lighting, and plush velvet booths this place is a cozy cocktail bar oasis.

Caballitos, Perth CBD

A little taste of Mexico right in the Perth CBD. Hidden away on Queen Street you will find a tequila and taco haven. If you are a tequila connoisseur or simply love a good margarita then this is the place to be. Be sure to try out their Largerita which is a frozen margarita and beer combo that will blow your mind. Be sure to wash those drinks down with some authentic Mexican tacos.
